The Craft Brewers Powwow three day conference kicked off from the 11-13th May 2018 and featured speakers from around the world, included John Mallet from Bell’s Brewery in the US, Francois Smit from the SA Barley Breeding Institute, Frank Peifer from Hopsteiner and Adrian Robinson from Saggy Stone. The weekend kicked off with the homebrewers’ braai on Friday and ended on Sunday with a tour and tasting at Devil’s Peak’s new brewery in Epping. The weekend also featured two competitions – one for home brewers and one for craft brewers, and included an epic trip to Germany up for grabs for three very lucky (and talented) brewers.
Little Wolf Brewery won the overall grand prize trip to Germany which included flights, accommodation, food and beer for a full week. All sponsored by Weyermann® Speciality Malts, Hopsteiner, Bevplus and DematechSA. Runner up for the overall prize was Hoghouse Brewing Co. and bronze prize winner was home brewer Matthew Savage.
Aimed at commercial craft brewers, home brewers and beer enthusiasts, the Powwow exists to create a unified platform for quality, consistency and comradery in the craft beer industry. The conference includes presentations from local and international speakers, educational workshops, brewery tours, delicious food and good fun.
